Elizabeth
Serrano has been a resident of the Salinas Community for 23
years. Previously she lived in San Benito County, having graduated
from San Benito High School, Gavilan College and San Jose
State University. She is a parent of a twenty year old daughter
and a seventeen year old son.
Elizabeth is currently employed as a case-manager
with the Alisal Community Healthy Start Family Resource Center.
She has worked in East Salinas for the past ten years serving
families with many challenges, some of whom are referred by
the Department of Social Services. Because of the fact that
she loves working with young children and people in general,
she became a PAL volunteer in 1996 and was selected for the
board in 1998. During her term with PAL, she has coordinated
the Ballet Program with the assistance of another PAL board
member for the past five years. She has assisted the current
and past Executive Directors in registering children for all
types of sports and activities.

Elizabeth has worked with
the Ventena Wilderness Society in coordinating at least two
one-week summer day camps for children for the past four years.
For the past five years, she has chaperoned different Salinas
PAL students to the Sacramento Experience Conference in which
youth learn how to lobby the legislature and also learn to
become youth leaders in their community. During her term,
she has also participated and chaperoned several PAL activities,
community events and trips each year.
In 2000, Elizabeth received the Civilian
Volunteer of the Year Award from the Salinas Police Activities
League and a certificate of Recognition from the California
State Assembly Office, Simon Salinas, serving the 28th assembly
district. In addition, she was also the recipient of the Outstanding
Classified Employee in 2000 and the recipient of Child Abuse
Prevention Council-Front Line Award in 2002.
